For those of you who would like to see photos of Sedona and the wonders of the area:  SEDONAKATHY

Native Wild Life: Wildlife abounds here- in the air and on the ground. Ravens, hawks and eagles- rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels and black bear - as well as coyotes, javelinas, deer, elk, mountain lion and rattlesnakes.  You will see Javelina, deer and elk roaming the Sedona neighborhoods, sharing habitats with the locals.

"Near the beginning of the 1900s, there were few Caucasian squatters in the Sedona area. One was T.C. Schnebly and his wife. T.C. petitioned the U.S. Postal Service to make a postal stop in the area. The post office needed a name and he suggested several which were rejected by the Postmaster General as being too long. Schnebly’s brother suggested submitting the name of T.C.’s wife. Her name was “Sedona” and the rest is history.

Apples and peaches were Sedona’s first main industry. Frank L. Pendley homesteaded land alongside Oak Creek and harnessed the water to irrigate his orchards. Today the original homestead is owned by the State Park system as “ Slide Rock State Park”. Yes, apple trees still produce delicious fruit that is sold to the visiting public to help cover the cost of administering the park. Old historic structures still reside in the park as a continuous reminder of years past."  Read more...

ELOY, ARIZONA

Why Eloy?  In time, Eloy and Casa Grande will be the center of the "Valley of the Sun" which is projected to run from the Tucson area up through the greater Phoenix-Scottsdale-Tempe-Chandler-Mesa-Sun City area and on up to Prescott.  Under creation is a theme park that will be constructed in the Eloy area.  Maybe you've heard about it?  Decades.  Eloy annexed Robson Ranch and is quickly becoming a retirement area mecca.  An hour from Phoenix and an hour from Tucson, makes living in the Eloy/Casa Grande area a way to access shopping and culture, but avoid the daily traffic of living in a large city.

ALL ABOUT ELOY, AZ

Eloy is part of the Lower Colorado River sub region of the Sonoran Desert and receives 8.48 inches of rain annually. Like all of the Sonoran Desert, Eloy has two distinct rainy seasons, one during the winter, as Pacific storms bring gentle rains from the North and West and the other, during the summer.

Eloy Historical Notes

In the mid 1940’s cotton was king in Eloy. Large numbers of migrant workers followed the cotton harvest and were needed to hand pick the cotton. Main Street in Eloy on Saturday night in the 1940’s was sometimes a wild place. Where most towns in the southwest had their lawless phase in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s, Eloy was perhaps the last town in the west to be “cleaned up”.

Due to the publicity from the murders of an ex-judge and deputy sherrif in 1948, one Eastern newspaper labeled Eloy “The Town Tougher Than Tombstone.” Of course, all that is in the past now, making for colorful history. In fact Eloy has matured into a nice, comfortable place to live.

ABOUT SEDONA'S RED ROCKS...

Every year, 5 million visitors are awestruck by the otherworldly red rock landscapes in and around Sedona. The area truly needs to be experienced to be appreciated. The sculptured red rocks take many, varied and magnificent shapes - a result of 350 million years of tireless erosion. Sedona has been inundated many times by shallow inland seas as they encroach and recede again and again while depositing the layers of sand that now make up Sedona's famous "Red Rocks". The Mogollon Rim (pronounced muggy-on) that surrounds Sedona is an awesome geologic uplift towering almost 3000 feet above Sedona's 4500 foot elevation. This uplift is what gives the area such dramatic rock formations- canyons, buttes and spires carved into the northern plateau over eons of time. The Mogollon Rim is home to the largest ponderous pine forest in the world. These pines share a varied landscape with piñon, juniper and mesquite trees as well as manzanita, prickly pear cactus and agave plants.
